Extreme Makeover: Green Home Edition
Wanna revolutionize your pad without some obnoxious guy screaming at you through a megaphone? Find something to Ty (ahem) your room together at Vernare, a showroom and consulting service for eco-friendly home design. The store features stuff from about 40 local vendors, including The Reclaimer’s custom-milled wood repurposed from LA buildings and Armorlite’s tough-as-nails recyclable roofing material, made from superinsulating-yet-lightweight recycled polymers (i.e., plastic). They practically had to drag us off the sleek, retro-inspired Ecotiques chair (see photo) – by designer Morgan Nutting, who scours antique shops and modernizes her finds with VOC-free paints, organic-cotton batting, and sustainable cork and hemp fabrics. From hand-woven, fair-trade rugs to nontoxic wall coverings, your place’ll get a green upgrade - sappy ending not included.
